Rollerblading with Shiner
Written by Josh Lyon

I've started rollerblading with Shiner (our dog). Since we got Dish Network, we've been watching a lot of Dog Whisperer - the show with Cesar Millan.  He is always talking about releasing the dogs energy and one of the examples we have seen him do to release dog's energy is to go rollerblading with the dog and the owners.

When it starts getting closer to bedtime, Shiner starts running around the apartment with a squeaky toy and we figure it has to drive the downstairs neighbor mad.  I usually try to stop her when she starts running around, but that probably keeps all her energy pent up in her.  Instead of just stopping her from running around, we decided to start helping her release some of that energy by taking her out rollerblading.

It's been a while since I've written a blog post to my website, but I guess I've just been busy with a lot of things going on in my life. I've been travelling a ton for work - which has been really cool, but has kept me ultra busy. Since the beginning of the year, I've been on business trips to:

Austin, Texas
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Malta, Malta (South of Italy) - Stayed in London, England for a 2 nights
San Francisco, California
Shenzhen, China

E-mail to SMS

I set a lot of reminders for myself on my company e-mail and I don't have a blackberry yet. I kind of want one for all the great features, but on the other hand I'm concerned with how connected that would make me and thus make me feel obligated to respond. Here's a list of e-mail addresses for some of the most popular carriers (in the US) just replace phonenumber in the addresses below with the proper phone number.

T-Mobile: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Virgin Mobile: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Cingular: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Sprint: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Verizon: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Nextel: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

As a side note, you can also do this with a service called teleflip. It's the same thing as sending it to one of the other formats, but it adds a footer to the e-mail that says "Email on your cell - teleflip.com". I just use my SprintPCS address like above to send reminder messages to myself and it's not that hard for me to remember the one address. I can see how it would be beneficial if you wanted to send messages to multiple people though. Teleflip also has some commercial offerings on their website that do more advanced e-mail to SMS features. To use teleflip, send the e-mail to the following:

Frontpage Tech Posts
Written by Josh Lyon

I've decided to quit posting technical posts to my frontpage. I figure that most people who land on my blog for a tech post are probably getting here from google or another search engine and will land directly on the article they are interested in. People who are more likely to visit my site on a consistent basis are friends and family. As such, I am trying to make it easier for them to enjoy the site (by simply coming to the frontpage) without having to navigate through all the techy madness that I am always posting about.

If you do read my blog for the techy posts, they will all still be here. They won't show up on the site's main front-page, but they'll still get filed to the tech category of my blog. What do you think about this change? Leave a comment and let me know!
