It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post to my website, but I guess I’ve just been busy with a lot of things going on in my life. I’ve been travelling a ton for work – which has been really cool, but has kept me ultra busy. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been on business trips to:
Austin, Texas
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Malta, Malta (South of Italy) – Stayed in London, England for a 2 nights
San Francisco, California
Shenzhen, China
I’m finally back home though and the traveling appears to have slowed down for a little while. I have some really great pictures of most the places I went this year, although I didn’t take any of Austin or San Francisco as I’d been there before and already have some good pictures of there. I need to take the time to download all the pictures to my computer, then upload them to my website. I’ve never really seen the value in those memory cards that can automatically upload to a computer or website wirelessly, but now I do!
The reason I was travelling so much at the beginning of the year is I was rolling out a tool to our sales managers that I had been developing over the past year. I’m officially transitioning into a new (IT Innovation) role at work and we have some really cool projects rolling out. It’s kind of interesting being in a position where I have to transition a lot of hard work that I’ve done over a period of time to a new person to support. On the other hand, it’s cool that the company is putting me in the position where I get to work on great projects with a lot of impact, then transition them to other people to support while I get to go work on more great projects.
Don’t get me wrong though, transitioning projects to other people is no easy task. It would reflect poorly on me if I just handed over the projects I had worked on and then they failed because I didn’t work just as hard on the transition to support as I did on developing the project. It’s interesting watching other people who are in the same position get really wrapped up as the owner of a project. I often watch these people struggle with letting go of their “baby.” I’m trying to learn from watching these people and make sure I set up a good transition plan and keep myself focused on what’s coming up next.
Hopefully I’ll get some of those pictures from my travels up soon and I’ll remember to update my blog more often! PS. I’m Platinum on American Airlines now, just from these first 3 months of the year. 😉
