Monaro Conversion Updates

A few more of the critical parts for my GTO to Monaro conversion came in. I originally ordered the VZ Monaro front bumper kit from JHP in Australia. They were really great to deal with – professional, friendly, and really helpful when I ran into some basic issues. The only downside to using JHP was that I had to pay a 3% conversion fee with my credit card company since the charge was in Australian Dollars and my credit card company is American Express and thus uses US Dollars.

I decided I would try to find a US based company to purchase the rest of my Monaro parts. I did a little research and found TopShelfPerformance. I ordered my badge kit and side-marker repeater light kit from them. It look a really long time to get the parts from TopShelfPerformance and it’s a pain in the ass to try to get a hold of them as they never answer their phone calls, so I called up JHP and ordered my rear bumper insert from them even though they were $20 more expensive. Once I called them and placed the order, it turned out they were actually $50 cheaper at JHP than TopShelfPerformance (I guess the AUD:USD conversion swung in my favor).

The moral of the story is JHP is great and if you are looking at ordering from G8 to Commodore or GTO to Monaro conversion parts, I would highly recommend you order from them.

Dad’s Birthday

It was my Dad's birthday this weekend and they came up to Dallas to celebrate it.  My girlfriend, Laura, still lives in Austin and she got to ride up with them.  It was nice to be able to see my family before I have to head out to Spain for a month.  Speaking of the trip to Spain, it might be pushed back a little bit to accommodate the schedule of the project.

Because my dad's birthday is in January, he usually likes to have one of his favorite meals – Chicken and Noodles.  It's a really simple, but delicious meal that is basically just noodles, chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn.  Because Laura is a vegetarian, she opted out on the chicken and just had Noodles. Bruce and Kathy Witwer, some of my parents best friends, are the ones who made the chicken and noodles and had us over for dinner and games.

My car was overheating this weekend, so I pulled into a gas station and waited for it to cool down.  I pulled the thermostat, which I suspected was the culprit.  After pulling the thermostat, the car was running cool, so I got to drive out to Allen to enjoy the Chicken and Noodles.

On Sunday, Bruce and Kathy, my parents, and Laura's mom came out to my apartment to have lunch.  We went to Cozymels, which is a Mexican food place close by.  Afterwards, my aunt and uncle Randy and Cathy came out to watch the football game.  My cousin, Chris Lyon, plays high-school football and is huge.  At 16, he's over 210 pounds and is a big guy.  We had a few beers, watched the game, and everyone left sometime after around 5 pm.

And here I am at home alone again.  It's actually not been that bad as work has kept me pretty busy. I'm excited about Laura coming up here when she graduates, but I'm going to enjoy traveling at work to keep me busy until she gets here.
